Lucent
Transparency is a property found in liquid, gas and glass. The unique alchemy of transparency for the amorphous media glass is presented in an intriguing way that explores colours, reflection and depth.
On show will be a selection of contemporary wearable glass jewellery and beaded objects designed & created by members of the New Zealand Glass Bead Artists Community. This community, made up of both well established and emerging artists, will explore the fascinating nature of glass through works exhibited for the first time in New Zealand.
At Lucent, visitors will not only be able to witness artists’ different interpretations of transparent glass as a medium for design, but be able to walk home with their very own pieces made from handmade glass beads or fused glass. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings and more will be on show.
This is a Members only exhibition, if you wish to become an member please download the form and follow instruction on the Become a Member page.

Wearable Glass Exhibition 2008
The first exhibition that the NZGBA has held was a flaming success. Hosted at Essenze gallery in Auckland the Wearable Glass exhibition certainly caught the public’s attention.
Arriving at the gallery on the opening night I walked up the street and was met with the bright clean colourful space that Essenze Gallery offers. Bustling with activity we estimate over 60 people attended the opening.
The team at Essenze created an amazing display, well beyond our expectations. The acrylic boxes John Hanson had made showcased some of the most talented glass jewellery artists in a manner we can only describe as radiant and reflective of the medium. These display boxes will be used to protect jewellery for future exhibitions and can also be borrowed by members. We had 20 made, so there are enough to go around!
Entry quality was extremely high and we would like to offer our thanks to all those that entered the exhibition. The final selection of over 70 works for the exhibition is a testament to the craftsmanship and innovation in New Zealand lampworking today.
We were very impressed with Emily Lake’s new pendant series, three-dimensional implosion flowers suspended on sterling silver chains.
Thank you to our sponsors Montana Wines that provided the wine for the opening evening.
