May Challenge by Claire Taylor

Posted by Claire Taylor on May 12, 2011

I wanted to enter this bead into the May challenge.
It is an oblong tab bead with honeycomb on both sides. It features two little honey bees (Barney and Frizz…think about it…got it? lol) and has a drip of honey on one side. This is part of my ‘Honey Bee mine’ series that I am currently exploring.

I love the way the honeycomb came out on this, as it really does have the seperated hexagons of a real honeycomb :)

Feb Bead Challenge

Posted by Karen Irwin on February 24, 2011

I went with a red theme – seemed appropriate as my daughter is a Med Lab Scientist working in Transfusuion at Waikato Hospital. (She is on her way to Christchurch to do what she can there as I am writing this). I like using hardware in my pieces so have added a couple of tv adapters to this one.

Isla – Feb Challenge

Posted by IslaOsborne on February 17, 2011

Below is one of the pieces I am submitting to the Courage Beads exhibition. It’s not really made of beads as the lampworked elements are made directly onto a mandrel so the glass is attached to the stainless steel. Hope you like it!

Brown Trojan, 2011
Lampworked glass, stainless steel, acrylic. Constructed.
550mm (diameter)
In her current body of work, Isla explores the relationship between immunotherapy drugs and their host viruses.
Playing with scale and referencing Victorian ideas of collection, Isla presents a thoughtful view of the world we live in.
