I am not sure if I ever got round to telling you at the time, (something about holes in the brain!), but during your exhibition a gorgeous old guy came in on a mobility scooter. He was as deaf as a doorknob and had found the bead on Cheltenham beach. He was worried it had been lost and thought he should returned it. When I explained that the bead was a gift from the artists for him to keep he was so absolutely delighted and said he would give it to his grand daughter. It was a beautiful wee moment and I felt privileged to be a little part of the joy that your project spread in the world….ahhhhhh!

I’m too young to type anything that most people will understand but I found my beautiful bead (Matalic black with aqua and blue blobs) on a swing in Francis Reserve, Grey Lynn. My Mum says that she will look after it for me until I’m old enough not to swallow it. Thank you it’s lovely. Zoe Bug x

Lampwork beads in the wild

Release a bead is an global project spearheaded by the International Society of Glass Beadmakers, with the aim of expanding glass bead experiences all over the world. You can get more information about the project, or write in the guestbook by visiting the releaseabead website.
I am planning a series of bead releases with a difference over the course of 2010. I will release a series of ‘twin’ beads, with the idea that the finder keeps one of the beads and passes the second on to a stranger. I want to create an experience that contains the joy of both giving and receiving – encouraging kindness.
If you would like any more information about the project, please drop me a line: isla.osborne@gmail.com
