The Original Art Sale 2011 (TOAS 2011)

Posted by BorntoBeadnz on February 1, 2011

We are happy to announce that the registration for The Original Art Sale 2011 (TOAS 2011) is now open. This year will be buzzing with activity with preparations for the Rugby World Cup so we are bringing forward the date of the sale. Auckland’s largest art market will be held on 13 to 15 May 2011 at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre.

As one of Auckland’s established art events, we are continually looking for ways to improve our service to our artists. For 2011, we will be confirming acceptance to online applications within 5-7 business days upon receipt of payment and sample images. This feature has been organized so you can immediately start on your artwork without the long wait for application results. The earlier you register, the earlier you will receive the reply. You may choose to apply online or send your application via post.

Once again, over 1,200 artworks by more than 350 artists from the New Zealand art community will be accepted at this massive three day event.

Registration dates are from 31 January to 15 March. Results for postal applications will be announced on 21 March 2011. For updates, follow us on Facebook or visit www.theoriginalartsale.co.nz for details. We have also set up the TOAS 2011 events page and you may use this page to invite your contacts to the event.

We are excited for TOAS 2011 and we look forward to your ideas and creations this year!

Kind regards,
Richard Jeffery

Bead Archaeology Stitch Classes

Posted by KarileaLindsayBeale on January 28, 2011

I would like to take the opportunity to invite you all to two fabulous stitchwork classes that are happening in conjunction with the NZGBA Bead Archaeology exhibition.  If you are interested in learning how to stitch with correct tension, using the correct materials and beads, for a fabulous outcome – then come along!

The first class is an Ndebele Cuff made with a stitch that originated with the Ndebele tribe of South Africa.  The sample is pictured using bronze beads (it is actually my personal cuff).  The kit itself is lovely neutral tones of grey and black (stunning!).  This class is generously sponsored by Beads Glorious Beads in Kingsland, Auckland and will be held at the Art Station on the 5th Feb from 10.00-13.00.

The second class is a contemporary take on an Egyptian Sun Collar.  It combines crystal drops, seed beads and a beautiful button clasp in its design.  There are two colourways available – as pictured.  This class is generously sponsored by Auckland Beads of Devonport, Auckland and will be held at the Art Station on the 12th Feb from 10.00-14.00.

Kits and tuition are provided with the class.  As this is a fundraising opportunity for the NZGBA, class fees will apply.  Classes can be booked by following the links on the NZGBA websites ‘Exhibitions’ page.

Courage Beads

Posted by BorntoBeadnz on January 10, 2011

Venue to be confirmed. 1st – 31st  March, 2011.
It seems that there truly is no rest for the wicked, so back to your torches in anticipation of yet another great exhibition. Hot on the heels of Lucent and Bead Archeology, we have been offered the opportunity to be part of Child Cancer Month in March 2011. The NZGBA will be working with The Child Cancer Foundation to develop a month-long exhibition of Courage Beads

Courage Beads, to be held in the foyer of the Vero Tower, will highlight the role of the NZGBA within the Beads of Courage programme. It will showcase the work of member artists and raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation.

Submissions could be anything from individual beads to jewellery or sculpture, but must focus on an aspect of the Beads of Courage programme. You may choose to work with heart or butterfly beads, consider the concept of courage, or the journey children take through their treatment process. We are looking for your unique point of view.

You can find entry forms and submission guidelines here, and the important dates are:

Submission Intentions: 21st Jan, 2011

Entry Forms and Submissions: 21st Feb, 2011

Exhibition Opens: 1st March, 2011

Exhibition Closes: 31st March, 2011.

Any questions, feel free to contact me, I’m already looking forward to your submissions.
