The Bead Hold 2009 Challenge results

Posted by BorntoBeadnz on August 31, 2009

The awards evening for the annual Beadhold challenge was held in Pt Chev on Friday evening last week. The jewellery on display was staggering and there was a lot of seed bead style jewellery which naturally left me for dead as my piece I entered was all about the glass and really other than a crimp at each end had no real design except the glass. When you have a look at the results you’ll see what I mean, I had no chance in winning anything so have to step up my game. the results can be found on the Beadhold website under news

I entered the piece below in the celebrity judge category. I chose Megan Alantini who is from South Africa, immigrated to New Zealand and married an All Black. She was also in the band True Bliss and subsequently was selected judge for NZ Idol. I wanted to combine both her African and Kiwi influences and create a piece that exhibited both traits. Africa is not shy of colour which I liberally used throughout the design. The hollow beads are decorated with koru’s and the spears in between signify the strong warrior tribal connection between both cultures. The button was great fun to make, now all I have to do is step up the strining, considering Kari another member of ours won the celeb rity section with her magnificient piece.
